Travel Art You’ll Love!

This post was most recently updated on September 18th, 2018

I want to share with you some travel art I absolutely love, because I think you will, too.

Let me introduce you to Lacey Musson. She’s a friend of mine, and she is so creative. I think it runs in her genes because her talented mother paints wall murals and watercolors. Even her grandmother painted scenic and floral prints. Lacey doesn’t think her work is as professional as theirs (I disagree!), but she does recognize she’s been given a gift. I’ll say!

Travel Art Doodles?

Lacey’s forte is doodling…seriously, the most fun and colorful doodling I’ve seen. She calls them ‘zentagrams’.

Okay, I used to doodle on my PeeChee folder in school (did that just date me?), but none of my doodles invoked a “Wow!” or an “I’d love to hang that on my wall!”  But Lacey’s art derives from doodles she’s been making since middle school and even a specific style she learned in a 3rd grade art class. She always drew in school or church because it helped her stay focused. When friends started admiring her doodles, she realized she’d found something she really enjoyed that might help earn some money.

Lacey’s Inspiration

Because she grew up near the ocean, she finds great inspiration from the sea. This is how Lacey describes her process:

“I combine the organic, natural shapes found by the ocean with geometric, man-made shapes we see on buildings, around town, etc. My pieces look most cohesive when I have a fair balance of the two shapes, intertwined with one another. My favorite pieces (and probably most nerve-racking!) are the custom pieces that customers come to me with. Some of these include state pieces with specific symbols/pictures that represent what makes the place special to them, while others contain words that have deep meaning to the recipient of the piece. Typically, these custom pieces take longer, as I want to ensure all the aspects the customer requested are added and cohesively work together with my typical designs that pull the piece together.”

It’s one thing to be an inspired artist and work on your own, but I think it’s an entirely different level to be able to take other people’s ideas and bring them to life with your art. Lacey does a great job at this! This creative process is also what helps keep Lacey sane.

Lacey says, “Now, as a stay at home mom to a 1-year-old and with a husband in med school, every order helps give me a little piece of sanity as I find solace in creating art.  I think it is imperative that mothers have a hobby other than their families. While I love them to the end of time, having something else that I succeed in helps give me the energy and confidence I need as a wife and mother.”

Travel ArtLacey started a successful Etsy shop called Zentagrams, where you can order custom doodles for you or as a gift for someone else. You can choose a zentagram based on where you live, where you got married, where you went on vacation, or where you want to go next! This month is the two-year anniversary of Zentagrams and to celebrate, Lacey is offering a free giveaway. (Giveaway now closed – see winner below)

According to Lacey: “Nothing satisfies me more than to collaborate with a customer and produce a piece that they’re proud to hang in their home. It truly is a privilege to have something I’ve made make its place into one’s sanctuary.”

While travel art is the theme of this highlight, Lacey also creates monograms and other designs, too. I hope you’ve enjoyed this glimpse into the life of a travel art creator. Feel free to check out her Etsy shop. While Lacey no longer has an Etsy shop, she is still happy to help you with a custom order. Just email her at zentagrams@gmail.com. Now is a great time to order gifts for the special people in your life — for weddings, birthdays, or for Christmas!

These pieces are so stunning and unique! I have had the great fortune of seeing Lacey’s doodles in church and at school when we were younger, and it’s so cool to see her put that talent into making art. I think if I were to win, I might want one of Italy–my family ADORES that place! 🙂

I would love for you to make West Virginia. (Most people don’t even know we’re a separate state, but I let everyone know. lol)

This is so cool! I would like the California Zentagram. As a matter of fact, I click on the post because of the photo of it. Entered the giveaway!

That is tough. It would either be Texas, Ireland, or Arkansas. But I am kind of fancying Ireland right now. But by tomorrow, I might change my mind!

I love all of your stuff Lacey! And ❤️️ that you’re doing a giveaway! It’s hard to choose, but if I won, I think I’d pick Florida. It’s where Tanner and I had our first real adventures together, where Ezra grew up, and where Jane was born.
