Whether you’re a seasoned traveller or someone who has only recently started exploring the world, it can be difficult to decide where to go next. This is especially true if you have any restrictions, such as your budget, your diet, or language barriers. With the recent pandemic, it might be challenging to learn where you CAN travel. If you’re looking for travel inspiration, there are several resources available to help you. And breaking out of your comfort zone may open the doors wider as you seek to explore.
Here’s where you can find travel inspiration to scratch your travel itch, whether you prefer something close to home or on the other side of the globe:
1. Check out Travel YouTubers
Travel YouTubers (AKA Vloggers) are a great source of inspiration because they will show you unique locations from their personal experiences. Don’t limit yourself to only one channel! Looking for travel inspiration might lead you to search for videos about Europe or Asia, unique cuisine, travel by train or backpacking, or travel photography. When you find a travel YouTube channel that focuses on your own interests, it will provide you with plenty of inspiration for your next destination.
Here are a few YouTube travel channels you might like to begin with:
or my own YouTube at Postcards & Passports
You can also just search on YouTube for specific cities, countries, or adventures and find wonderful guides that are very helpful.
2. Consider looking at reviews
Reviews are also a great place to look if you want to learn about a location before you travel there. For instance, you can check out Lifestyle Holiday Vacation Club reviews if you’re thinking of spending your time in a resort, or you can look at reviews for various tourist destinations around the world. Here are reviews for London Tower, for example. It’s a lot like checking out reviews for items you purchase, except these are reviews for a location. Keep in mind that different people can have wildly different opinions and experiences, so make sure you read more than one review before you decide.
3. Looking for travel inspiration? Talk to your friends
Another great source of inspiration is your friends and family members. Ask them if they’ve travelled anywhere recently or speak to them about their past holidays and adventures. There’s a good chance they can inspire you to visit somewhere special. They’re likely to share their travel highlights with you or warn you about places they’ll never return! Their experiences can be very valuable, especially if you have similar interests. They’ll also be able to share tips you might not get any other way — because they have firsthand experience and you can trust them.
4. Read travel blogs
For obvious reasons, this might be my favorite resource. Much like travel YouTubers, bloggers love to explore unique travel destinations and write about them so you can visit them as well. Instead of being focused on videos, bloggers can get a little more descriptive about where they have travelled. They usually have loads of fantastic pictures to help inspire you, too. Inserted links for further information like admission prices and hours or where to make reservations are very helpful.
Checking out travel blogs is similar to viewing Vlogs, but it might be easier to look for travel inspiration in a blog post than watching a 20-minute video. Here are a few of my favorite travel bloggers you might want to look into:
5. Scroll through your Instagram feed
When I’m looking for travel inspiration, I often turn to my Instagram feed. I am truly inspired by the beautiful photos posted by travellers all over the world. And I’m equally motivated to explore when I see photos of great food to try, or new parks and venues near my home. You don’t have to look long for a photo that will catch your attention and make you want to learn more.
On Instagram, you can also search for a location you’re interested in. You can even private message anyone who has posted photos you’ve seen, to ask questions and get more detailed information. Just the other day, I asked an IG traveller for recommendations for lodging in the Florida Keys. I was happy when he gave me several good suggestions. It is typical of travellers to enjoy sharing their tips with others.
You can follow me on my travel Instagram account here. I share a lot of photos from southern California, especially San Diego, but also Utah, Arizona, and some European travels, too.
Summary:
I have no doubt you are ready to venture out for new sights and travel adventure. Whether you are looking for travel inspiration near home or someplace more exotic, there are so many resources to help you find the perfect place for you. If it’s a road trip, camping, visiting a new attraction or flying across the globe, use the experiences of others to help you plan your trip!
And after you choose your next destination, the online sites are a great help in planning the details of your trip!
So many great resources to get me feeling inspired!! I love travel and look forward to making it more of a priority this summer.
