Costco Membership Benefits You Probably Didn’t Know About

This post was most recently updated on October 26th, 2021

If there’s a way you can travel more or better, I’m going to share my tips with you — like using these Costco benefit tips from The Good Stuff, that will leave more money in your pocket…

Aside from the best hot dogs around for miles and delicious food samples, there are several considerable advantages of shopping at Costco.  Though there is an annual membership fee, the fee is insignificant and quickly realized if you take advantage of the perks of being a member.

The following are Costco membership benefits you may not be aware of if you have not yet joined the club. What are you waiting for?

  1. Medical Insurance

If you are currently shopping around for a new medical insurance policy, then Costco is the first place to start. Costco has cost-effective rates for members that cover both individuals and small businesses. A point you should remember is to read the fine print and perform due diligence of the insurance policy in order to ensure it meets your needs.

  1. Free health screenings

While we are discussing health, Costco offers free health screens through their pharmacy department. Some common conditions people screen for include diabetes and osteoporosis. If you are interested in free health screens, you only need to contact your local Costco. You can inquire when they hold the free screenings or check their events page.

  1. Group vision plans & budget eyewear

I can personally attest to the times I have come across great offers on reading glasses at Costco. Suffice to say, I take advantage of these offers when they arise as they are quickly sold out. The small investment of a membership fee is definitely worth it. Costco also offers group vision plans and prescription glasses at a crazy-low price.

  1. Low prescription costs

A few years back, I did a news piece where I compared prescription prices between several giant pharmacies. Costco’s pricing was considerably lower in comparison to its competitors. Always check at Costco’s pharmacy when looking for prescriptions. What most people do not know is that this benefit also extends to non-members in most states. Inform them at the store’s entrance that you are there to pick up or drop off a prescription.

  1. Unique deals on gift sets

Sometimes, Costco offers deals on unique gift sets that are not available in other retail stores. The pricing is also good for item combinations (like gift-wrap, ribbon, and tape, for example). These gems are available in the beauty and housewares sections of the store, especially during the holiday season.

  1. Low-cost vaccinations

Costco also offers vaccinations at cost-effective prices. If your medical insurance does not extend to vaccinations, it is worth taking the time to research the offers and learn how you can benefit from the competitive prices.

  1. Discount movie tickets and gift cards

Today, it seems as if going to the movies costs a small fortune. From movie tickets to snacks, we end up spending a lot of money. If you love going to the movies every time there is a new movie out, then this could be problematic. Costco offers discounted movie admission tickets, with savings up to 25%. The same applies for store and restaurant gift cards.

  1. Low grocery prices at Costco

When shopping for groceries, it is important to take advantage of available offers to meet your budget. Costco has offers on certain groceries that can save you money. Look up their prices on cheese and peanut butter, for example. Peanut butter is a food item with a long shelf-life, meaning you can stock up and really save. Savings on everyday items like deodorant and toilet paper will also help a lot.

  1. Good prices on birthday cakes

The bakery section of Costco offers good deals on birthday cakes. If you are in the market for a large birthday cake, be sure to visit Costco and inquire about their prices. I am a big fan of Costco cakes and I can attest to the fact that they taste as good as some expensive cakes I have had before.

  1. Ink cartridge refills

To conclude, I have reserved the best tip for last. Costco refills ink cartridges. If you want to save up to 70 percent over purchasing new ones, all you need to do is bring in your old ink cartridges. Aside from the savings, you are contributing to a greener environment. By refilling cartridges instead of purchasing new ones, you help reduce the amount of waste going into landfills.

Costco is an overall one-stop shop for your family needs. It offers everything from groceries to clothing and auto mechanic support. With one visit, you can get everything you need, unlike other stores that focus on specialization. Costco is for everyone.
