I moved to Utah this year, and I’m still finding my bearings. When you move, you have all the hard and not-so-fun stuff to do like unpack, register your car, get a new drivers license, and find new doctors. But then there’s the fun stuff, too — like making new friends, exploring new attractions and restaurants, and learning what is popular near where you live. With Halloween just around the corner, I was wondering what everyone does to celebrate here. When I started asking around, I was told “Utahns really get into Halloween!” And as I’m driving around town, I’m learning just how true that is. So I felt compelled to share with you some of the best Halloween decorated houses near me and my family.
This is not an exhaustive list, by any means, but it’s a great collection of some of the most intense, most abundant, or most gory Halloween decorations. I even polled a few friends to learn what I shouldn’t miss. And why did I focus this list on homes around Lehi? Well, it’s one of the fastest growing cities in Utah, and it’s kind of central to north Utah County and south Salt Lake County.
1. 417 River Way, Lehi
This was the first home that caught my attention. I was driving to my son’s home and was amazed at just how many Halloween figures had been added to this front yard. It’s a great collection of Halloween creatures and skeletons.
2. 348 W 1560 N, Lehi
If I were giving out awards for the best Halloween decorated houses, “Baird Manor” would win the most high tech exhibit. It’s also kind of creepy. A five-minute movie is projected onto the front of the home. It is so realistic, it transforms the home into different scenes reminiscent of the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland. My daughter tells me there’s a haunted house (backyard) you can walk through on Friday and Saturday evenings and Halloween, but it’s not for little ones!

- 1039 W 1630 S – Butterfield Family Lights; tune your radio to 87.9 FM for the music
- 2489 W 700 S – Downey Family Lights; lights that change colors and patterns to music
- 1031 W 300 N – Howlett Family Lights to music
- 366 W 2800 N – cemetery, lots of Jack-o-Lanterns and music
4. 6453 Oak Hollow Circle, Highland
Not the most elaborate of Halloween decorated homes, but I enjoyed the mix of scary and sweet. With spooky creatures on one side and the cutest Halloween inflatables on the other, this home is worth taking your kids to see.
5. 735 Long Drive, Alpine
I don’t have a photo of this home but I heard it’s worth a visit. With lights, fog and animatronics, it’s an impressive Halloween cemetery set-up.
6. 1309 N 200 E, American Fork
Another home with lots of Halloween lights and music, plus a screen for video. It’s close to Art Dye Park in the Fox Hollow neighborhood.
7. 4416 N. Canyon Rd, Pleasant Grove
Known as the Canyon Grove Haunt, this is another home that really packs in a lot to see! It’s also the only home with a drive-through Halloween display. Their circular driveway is open October 1 throuth Halloween from 8 am to 10:30 pm. Lights and action begin at 6:30 pm. There’s no cost to drive through, but every year they encourage donations for a different charity. Preferred donations are diapers and non-perishable foods.
8. Riverton Halloween Tour
A friend recommended a particular home for me to check out, at 4142 Red Tail Drive in Riverton. What I didn’t know, until I got there, was that it was part of a city-wide Haunted Tour. If you go to the website, Riverton Halloween Tour, you’ll find a map of all the most amazing displays in Riverton. Dates run from October 16 through Halloween night.
The ones I personally viewed were 4142 Red Tail Drive, 4108 Red Tail Drive, and 4011 Deer Mountain Drive — all definitely worth seeing! The home at 4142 Red Tail Drive is the most elaborate and interesting, but my photos don’t do it justice.
9. Daybreak Halloween Themed Homes
In the community of Daybreak, on the island in the middle of Oquirrh Lake, are some of the best Halloween decorated houses I’ve ever seen! These are very impressive efforts to crowd-please and make Halloween a really fun holiday for the community. I’m sure it’s packed on Halloween night but you can go see the houses anytime, day or night, for a great Halloween-themed outing.
An entire block of homes on Lake Island Drive has been transformed into Barbieland, from the Barbie movie. Most are all pink with varied displays representing different rooms or scenes from the movie.

Other themed homes include “Inside Out”, “Stranger Things”, “Beetlejuice”, “Pirates of the Caribbean” and the “Monster Radio Show.” There’s also “Nightmare Before Christmas” and the “Love Shack” as well as a “Dead & Breakfast Inn.”
But my favorite (and I think it will be yours too!) is the Harry Potter themed home at 4674 Bayview Drive. No effort has been spared in the creation of this Halloween extravaganza. Every detail you can imagine has been thought of and implemented to whisk you away to Harry Potter’s world. Also known as Hogwarts on the Island, you’ll find the train platform, Diagon Alley, floating candlesticks, a dragon and giant snake, the cemetery where Harry Potter’s parents are buried, and a huge steamy cauldron with potions and spells. Broomsticks, Hogwarts flags, the moving staircase, and the Marauder’s Map add to the atmosphere. It’s so magical!
You may need to park off the island and walk into the neighborhood on Halloween night. I’ve been twice now this year, and it was easy to find parking in the evening on Paddle Board Way. Plan to just walk around and take it all in. There’s so much to see and enjoy, including the calls of ducks on the water and the reflections of lights on the lake.
10. 190 N 500 E, Kaysville
After telling you which home was my favorite, it’s only fair I also tell you which home I disliked the most. (Not because it wasn’t well-decorated, but because I found it to be way too creepy for me.) But I know some of you are really into scary, so you might really enjoy seeing this home. Here they have decorated at least 40 mannequins to be very lifelike in depicting horror scenes. Without ruining all the “fun”, there’s a guillotine, an operating table, ghoulish clowns, zombies, a chainsaw, and plenty of fake blood. Go at your own risk! (This home isn’t very close to Lehi, either. It’s a 45-minute drive)
Best Halloween Decorated Houses tips to share
While driving around looking for cool Halloween decorated homes, I picked up on a few popular themes. Here are a few ideas for how you can decorate your own home for Halloween:
- Hang witch hats, black bats or spiders from your porch
- Create a Halloween cemetery in your front yard
- Pose skeletons in all kinds of positions, from climbing up the face of your home to watering the garden. I’ve seen skeletons in trees, sitting in adirondack chairs, wearing zombie clothing, and climbing out of a grave! Be creative.
- Arrange a variety of inflatables in your yard. They can be cute, scary, or downright gory. I’ve seen it all!
- And if you’re not into Halloween so much, you can always create a beautiful porch or front step vignette with pumpkins, fall flowers, and wreaths.
- Another tip for enjoying Halloween in Utah is to visit one of the many Pumpkin Farms. There are many that include games, slides, mazes and other activities as well as the opportunity to purchase pumpkins for decorating your home. Here’s one of my favorites in San Diego.
