A Guide to Planning a Sports Trip

This post was most recently updated on July 9th, 2019

If the idea of relaxing on a beach fills you with dread and leaves you longing for something a little more fun and active, you should consider taking a sports trip at home or overseas. If you are a golf, tennis, football, basketball or soccer fan, there will be a destination to match your needs and taste.

To ensure you and your family (or travel buddies) have a fantastic time, read this guide to planning a sports trip.

Book the Best Tickets

The earlier you book your tickets, the better your seats will be. It is, however, important to consider your preferences before you invest in tickets to an event.

For example, if you are planning to attend a hockey game, you should book seats right behind a goal, as the game can move quickly. A goal seat will guarantee you don’t miss a moment of the action.

If you are attending a basketball game, you should aim to buy seats as close to courtside as possible so you don’t miss an important free throw or an impressive slam dunk. However, courtside seats can be rather expensive, especially if you are planning to watch a major franchise, such as the LA Lakers or New York Knicks.

Stay at an Affiliate Hotel

Many world-famous sporting events often partner with various hotels, which can provide attractive packages and competitive rates. For example, some hotels are more than happy to provide their guests with a free shuttle service, which makes it easy to travel to and from a tournament or major game.

What’s more, you could mix with like-minded sports fans, so you will be able to immerse yourself in the buzz and excitement as soon as you arrive at your hotel.

Explore Your Destination

It is also best to research your destination prior to your visit so you can fill your time with the best landmarks and attractions in between a tournament or game. Near San Diego’s Petco Park, for example, you might enjoy these rooftop restaurants.

If you are planning to enjoy dinner before or after a sporting event, book a table at a restaurant in advance to prevent disappointment.

You could even look for similar sporting activities to an event before your trip. For example, if you are planning to attend The Masters Tournament, you could enjoy a game or two at a golf course to boost your excitement for the championship. You will, of course, need to invest in high-quality golf clubs, such as the PXG 0211 irons.

Dress the Part

Many major events follow specific fashion traditions that are connected to the sport, which can make the experience much more memorable and enjoyable. So, before you pack your suitcase, do your homework to identify the appropriate clothing to wear to an event.

If you are attending a major horse racing event, guests commonly wear formal attire, such as a sleek suit or an attractive dress and hat. Alternately, many people choose to wear preppy plaids to world-famous golf tournaments.

Enjoy planning and taking a sports trip that you will remember for a long time to come!
